These are the same numbers that come out once a month and supposedly tell how the economy is doing. The new numbers show that we had a modest gain evidently almost a percentage point.
Well if you are into percentage points and gambling then I guess it would give you some fodder for the morning water cooler if you have a job and a water cooler. What still always amazes me is the way that the jobs are counted and more than that, the jobs that aren’t counted.
We are now a country of bits and pieces; it’s like getting a tweet of information to hope for the serge of warm and fuzzies. If you just read the headlines then we are doing much better, but, if you get into the meat of the way that it is measured then we are probably doing maybe just a little better. Those that have given up trying to find a job for just one month are no longer counted and thus are taking away from unemployment. These types of paper maneuvers make up the changes in statistics.
It is a very good thing that the small businesses are beginning to hire; they are the lifeline of your local economy. Now we need the big business and corporations to do the same.
